LITTLE RIVER, S.C. — A Memorial Day weekend celebration turned into a nightmare late Sunday evening when gunfire erupted near a boat dock in Little River, leaving 10 people shot and one person injured in a separate, non-gunfire-related incident, according to the Horry County Police Department.
The incident occurred just before 9:30 p.m. on Watson Avenue, near the Intracoastal Waterway, where dozens had gathered on a charter boat for a private celebration. Authorities say the shooting stemmed from an altercation during the gathering and stress that the event appears to be isolated, not connected to broader community violence.
“This was a targeted act of violence that occurred among individuals who knew each other,” said a spokesperson for Horry County PD. “We do not believe the general public is at risk.”
